Standard gear on all EMS vehicles

The state sets a minimum list of equipment, supplies, and medicines for EMS vehicles. The list includes items for infants and newborns. The Maryland EMS Institute sets the list under the State EMS plan and EMS Board policies. Beginning July 24, 2026, ambulances and other EMS vehicles must carry the required items.

Stronger ambulance reviews and complaints

Beginning July 24, 2026, counties and cities that run or hire ambulance services review ambulance performance every quarter. They must certify each review and send a summary to the Maryland EMS Institute. Reviews check response times, service quality, and compliance, and lead to fixes. Each county also runs an ambulance complaint system online and in person. Counties track and investigate complaints and report results every quarter.
