Stronger charges and registry for burglary sex contact

Beginning October 1, 2026, nonconsensual sexual contact done in connection with a first-, second-, or third-degree burglary is a third-degree sexual offense. The crime is a felony with up to 10 years in prison on conviction. These rules apply only to acts committed on or after that date. The law also sets sex-offender registry levels for this crime by the victim’s age: Tier I when the victim is an adult, Tier II when the victim is a minor age 13 or older, and Tier III when the victim is under 13.
