Bigger, rebalanced Maryland legal aid board

Beginning October 1, 2026, the board has 12 voting members. The Governor appoints them with the Senate’s advice and consent. Members must live in Maryland and represent different regions. Seven must be lawyers admitted to the Maryland Bar; five must be nonlawyers. Removing a voting member needs nine votes. It is only for malfeasance, persistent neglect or inability, or offenses involving moral turpitude.
