Special education continues after transfer

Beginning July 1, 2026, remote registration lets you note an existing IEP or 504 plan from your last state. The county must provide an appropriate education without undue delay, which can include services under the IEP or 504 plan. The county must work with you and the sending school to put services in place.

Military kids keep school and activities

Beginning July 1, 2026, if your child used advance enrollment, the child can stay in that school through the end of the current school year even if residency rules change. The child gets the same access to classes, sports, clubs, and other programs as other students.

State posts military enrollment info

Beginning July 1, 2026, the state publishes and keeps up‑to‑date guidance on advance enrollment for military families. It includes Purple Star Schools, the military student compact, and help for children with disabilities.

Advance school enrollment for military kids

Beginning July 1, 2026, county schools must let a military child moving to Maryland on official orders apply early, even if you do not yet live in the county. Enrollment includes course sign‑ups and charter school lotteries. Each county must offer no‑fee remote registration and cannot require you or your child to appear in person. To finish enrollment, within 10 days of the arrival date on your orders, you must provide proof the child is your dependent, a copy of the orders, and proof of county residence. Proof can be temporary on‑base lodging, a purchased or leased home, or military housing.
