New rules for Maryland Deaf school board

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Board of Trustees has 13 members. At least 7 trustees are Deaf. Each region of Maryland has a representative. Every trustee must live in Maryland and be a member of the public. They must show active interest in deaf children's education. The Governor appoints members with Senate confirmation. As the first six terms end after that date, those seats turn over on schedule. For those openings, the Governor prioritizes appointing Deaf candidates.
