More partner antibiotic treatment in Maryland

Beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland adds bacterial vaginosis to conditions allowing sexual partners to get antibiotics without a personal physical exam. Licensed certified midwives can also provide this partner treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and bacterial vaginosis. The law does not expand the existing prescribing or dispensing powers of advanced practice registered nurses or physician assistants. Licensed pharmacists can fill prescriptions for this treatment. The Secretary of Health must adopt rules for this treatment in both public and private health care settings.
