Grants to grow family child care providers

The state creates the Growing Family Child Care Opportunities Program in the Department of Education. The Department runs it with the Maryland Child Care Resource Network. Counties can apply only if they sign an agreement with the child care resource center for their licensing region, and they must run the local program together. The Department must award at least three grants, each up to $150,000, by September 1, 2022. The law also allowed early awards if funds were in hand before July 1, 2022.

Ongoing funding for child care grants

The Governor must include $450,000 for the Program in the state budget for fiscal years 2023, 2024, 2026, and 2028 through 2030. The state can use federal funds if allowed by federal law. This keeps money flowing for local child care grants in the listed years.
