Student voting seat on county library boards

Beginning July 1, 2026, a county library board may add one student member. The board sets how the student is chosen. The student must be a junior or senior in a public or private high school in the county, or in a county home instruction program. The student must be of good character and, if in school, in good standing, and is chosen in the student’s sophomore or junior year. The term is one year. A student who fills a vacancy serves the rest of that term and may be picked for a full term if still eligible. The student may vote on all policy matters, and the board may allow votes on other items by bylaw.

Only appointed members can be officers

Beginning July 1, 2026, each county library board must elect a chair from its appointed members. Any other officers must also be appointed members. Student or other nonappointed members cannot serve as chair or as officers.
