The law requires the Commission to pick a State Patient Safety Center by December 31, 2025. Beginning July 1, 2026, the Center leads statewide patient-safety work and shares best practices. It brings together providers, patients, and families to cut preventable harm and improve equitable care. By October 1 each year, the Commission and Center report activities and priorities to two committees.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the law creates a special, nonlapsing Patient Safety Center Fund. The Treasurer holds it and the Comptroller accounts for it. Interest stays in the Fund. The Governor must budget $1 million in FY2023–FY2025. The Governor must also budget $1 million in FY2027 and each year after. Each year, the Commission can grant the Center the budgeted amount plus the Fund’s interest and other income. Fund spending follows the State budget and must add to, not replace, other Center funding.
