Pension switch for Allegany detention officers

Beginning June 1, 2026, this applies if Allegany County joins the Correctional Officers’ Retirement System. Local detention officers employed before and still working on that date must enroll. Their prior Allegany County service counts toward retirement service and eligibility. After they join and get that credit, they leave the Employees’ Pension System. They have no further EPS benefit rights. The usual state pension transfer rules do not apply. Asset transfers on the effective date follow special transfer rules for the correctional officers’ system.
