Community election signs: longer displays, shared-space limits

Beginning April 28, 2026, Maryland law covers election signs in housing cooperatives, condominiums, and homeowners associations. Their governing documents generally cannot ban or restrict signs for candidates or signs supporting or opposing ballot questions. When no law governing the area sets a display period, association rules must allow a minimum election sign window. That window starts at least 45 days before early voting, or before the election when there is no early voting. It runs through 7 days after a primary election, general election, or ballot-question vote. The law allows restrictions in shared areas and restrictions under federal, state, and local law.
