Which rentals count for lead safety

Beginning October 1, 2026, Maryland updates what counts as a rental home under state lead-safety rules. A covered unit is a room or rooms for permanent living, with or access to places to sleep, eat, cook, and bathe. The law excludes unfinished basements; hotel, motel, or other transient units; secured areas not open to occupants; and units not offered for rent. This clarifies which rental homes are covered and which are not.
