Maryland insurers must cover menopause care

Beginning January 1, 2027, health insurers, nonprofit plans, and HMOs in Maryland must cover evaluation and management of menopause and related symptoms when your treating provider says it is needed. The rule applies to policies, contracts, and plans issued, delivered, or renewed on or after that date. The law requires coverage but does not set copays, deductibles, or provider payment rates. This expands access and can lower your out-of-pocket costs for these visits under covered plans.

Extra CE credit for menopause training

Beginning October 1, 2026, if you are a licensed clinician who evaluates and manages menopause, your board must grant at least 2 CE credits for each 1 hour of qualified menopause training. The Maryland Department of Health identifies at least one training program, after consulting expert groups like The Menopause Society. Boards may set a maximum number of menopause CE credits by regulation. This helps you meet renewal requirements faster, but within any board cap.
