Beginning January 1, 2027, Maryland health plans must reimburse outpatient services by graduate interns in counseling, social work, or psychology. This applies when the plan already pays for the same service by a licensed professional in that field. Care must be at an outpatient health care facility. The intern must be in a graduate program and work under the direct supervision of a board‑approved licensed professional, who must bill the insurer. The rule applies to policies issued, delivered, or renewed in Maryland on or after January 1, 2027.
