More hours and 24-hour decisions for town general assistance

You can apply for general assistance or get an application during your town’s regular business hours. The town must accept and process applications at least 50% of its regular hours each day. It must always post a clear notice with pick-up hours, application hours, the emergency overseer’s name, the 24-hour decision rule, and the department’s toll-free number to report violations. The town must give you a written decision within 24 hours of when you apply.
