The Maine Arts Commission can accept grants, private donations, and other outside money to support this study. The study reviews federal and national efforts to protect artists from AI copyright misuse and monitors educational use. The law provides a one-time $50,000 General Fund appropriation in fiscal year 2025-26. The money pays a consultant to research and analyze unauthorized AI use of an artist's work. Funding is $0 in 2026-27, so this is not ongoing.
