State sets de-escalation training guide for schools

The Maine Department of Education convenes teachers and experts to create best-practice training for schools. The guide covers 10 topics. It includes positive behavior supports, de-escalation, limits on restraint and seclusion, and how to report incidents on time. It also covers when to call for medical help, signs of distress, and Maine’s dangerous behavior law (Title 20-A, section 6555). The department must send the guide to every school administrative unit by September 1, 2026.
