Defendants cannot end final abuse protection orders
Under Maine’s Protection from Abuse law, a defendant cannot file a motion to end a final protection order. If a defendant files anyway, the court can dismiss it without a hearing and before any opposition. This keeps protections in place for the person covered and limits defendants’ options to cancel the order.
