The Maine Department of Education must create professional development in African American studies for educators. The state provides a one-time $15,000 General Fund appropriation in fiscal year 2026-27 to the Department’s Office of Workforce Development and Innovative Pathways to support this work. There is no funding in 2025-26 and no ongoing funding after 2026-27. The law does not set detailed timelines or who can enroll; the Department designs and offers the training. It does not provide direct cash to educators.
