Legislature must approve ferry overnight docking changes

The Maine DOT cannot change a state-owned ferry’s regular overnight docking on an island without the Legislature’s approval. To get approval, the DOT must send a bill to the Legislature’s Transportation Committee, and the committee may report a bill. In an emergency or other significant operational need, the DOT may dock the ferry overnight at a mainland port or a different island without approval. A temporary change does not alter the ferry’s usual overnight docking pattern.
