Schools must set student phone rules

By August 1, 2026, each Maine school board must adopt and put in place a written policy for student use of personal electronic devices during the school day. The policy covers cell phones and wearable devices that connect to the internet or a cellular network. Local policies set when and how students can use these devices at school. Families with K–12 students should watch for their district’s rules.
