Scallop fishers get up to 5 extra days

The law lets the Commissioner of Marine Resources add up to a total of 5 limited-access area days during the scallop season. Days can be added only to make up for days lost to bad weather. The commissioner must also find the scallop stock is strong enough in those areas. Rules are set by emergency rulemaking, so changes can take effect quickly. This can increase short-term catch and income for affected small commercial fishers.
