Intrastate commercial vehicles must carry $750,000 insurance
The law sets a combined single liability limit of $750,000 for commercial motor vehicles that operate only within Maine. Beginning January 1, 2026, every commercial motor vehicle liability policy issued, delivered, continued, or renewed in Maine must meet this minimum for intrastate operations. Each affected policy is treated as renewed no later than its next yearly contract anniversary after that date. Owners and operators must buy coverage at or above this level, and liability policies must provide at least this limit.
