No copays for prostate cancer screening
When your plan covers these screenings, you do not pay a deductible, copay, or coinsurance for them. This applies to the digital rectal exam and the PSA test. An HSA-compatible high-deductible plan may still charge cost-sharing if the IRS allows it. This starts January 1, 2027.
Yearly prostate screening covered for men 50–71
Most Maine-regulated health plans must cover yearly prostate cancer screening for men 50 to 71 when a doctor recommends it. Coverage includes a digital rectal exam and a PSA test. Coverage follows the latest nationally recognized clinical guideline. The law defines what counts as a nationally recognized guideline. This starts January 1, 2027, at your plan’s next yearly renewal. Limited policies like accident-only, hospital indemnity, Medicare supplement, and long-term care are not included.
