More heating help from Maine firewood banks

Maine’s Bureau of Forestry can donate timber from Public Reserved Lands to a firewood bank after a written request. The director must confirm enough money in the Public Reserved Lands Management Fund. The bank pays or reimburses harvest and trucking fees, and the harvest contract terms are met. A firewood bank gives free firewood to individuals and families who need heating help. The Bureau promotes firewood banks and shares public information about resources and charitable needs. It keeps a public website listing all firewood banks and can work with the University of Maine System.
