New fund for commercial fishing safety and rescues

The law creates the Commercial Fishing Safety Fund at the Department of Marine Resources. It pays for safety training and gear, and for search, rescue, and recovery equipment. Before spending, the department must consult the Commercial Fishing Safety Council. The commissioner can accept donations from any source, and all money stays dedicated to these uses. Interest earned stays in the fund, and unspent balances carry forward each year. The state provides $500 in FY 2025-26 and $500 in FY 2026-27 to start the fund (account N534).
