Dental care in all public schools
The Maine CDC provides preventive dental services in every Maine public K–12 school. Starting January 1, 2027, these services are available statewide. Care happens at school, which reduces travel and time away from work. Watch for school notices and consent forms.
Doctors trained to treat kids' teeth
The DHHS oral health program trains primary care teams to treat early tooth decay in infants and young children. Licensed dental professionals deliver the training. It follows guidance from From the First Tooth and the American Academy of Pediatrics and promotes use of silver diamine fluoride. Families can get more preventive dental care during regular checkups.
Mobile dental teams in every district
The health department is creating a mobile dental team for each public health district. Mobile care happens outside a permanent clinic, often at schools. The state and school districts form public‑private partnerships to get these teams running, including equipment, supplies, and logistics. These teams provide added preventive and disease‑intervention services at public schools, bringing care closer to families.
