New rules for Maine CPA candidates

Beginning June 12, 2025, Maine sets new CPA education and exam rules. To get licensed, you must complete at least 150 semester hours and earn a 4-year or higher degree from a college the Board accepts. Your program must include basic accounting and auditing courses the Board sets by rule. You may take the CPA exam with 120 hours and those courses if you expect to finish the degree within 120 days after the exam. The Board will not release your exam grades or give credit unless you finish the degree within 120 days, unless the Board grants more time.
