More grants for Maine recycling and composting

The department can give grants to public or private groups that increase waste diversion in a town, region, or statewide. Eligible uses include composting, organics recovery, recycling, starting or improving programs and equipment, collection, transport, and processing of diverted materials, residential support, pilot tests, and public education. For public and regional entities, grants can also pay for rollout costs like hiring experts, feasibility studies, and regional collection and transport efforts. Applicants must show the project is likely to increase diversion. The law does not set funding amounts or a start date.
