Insurers cannot underpay independent pharmacies
Health insurance carriers and their pharmacy benefit managers cannot pay a pharmacy less than they pay their own affiliated pharmacy for the same drug or service. This applies to reimbursements for prescription drugs and pharmacy services. The rule covers carriers and PBMs that contract with carriers in Maine. The law prohibits discriminatory reimbursement based on affiliation.
