Air standards for new Maine schools

Maine’s education department must set air quality and ventilation standards for all newly built public schools statewide. This includes schools with mechanical and nonmechanical ventilation systems. The department must update Rules Chapters 60, 61, and 125, using Maine’s major substantive rule process. It must submit provisionally adopted rules to the legislature’s Education and Cultural Affairs Committee by January 9, 2026. The standards must apply no later than July 1, 2026.
