Medical check-ins add sexual orientation and gender identity

Beginning October 1, 2026, health care facilities must ask adults (19+) about sexual orientation and gender identity when they collect demographic information, including at intake. Pharmacies licensed under Title 32, chapter 117 are excluded. You can decline to answer. Your responses, if given, go in your electronic health record and stay confidential under section 1711-C. Facilities must use the federal HRSA 2016 data standard or any later update.
