Public data on utility collections

The Maine Public Utilities Commission must post credit and collection data from any electric utility with over 50,000 customers. The data appears on the commission’s public website in a clear, easy-to-read format. It covers information utilities submit under state reporting rules. This helps customers see arrears, disconnections, and other collection practices for large utilities.

Maine regulator must weigh affordability

The Maine Public Utilities Commission must consider how its decisions affect what households pay for electricity. It must still ensure the power system stays reliable. This applies to all of its duties under state utility law. The rule itself does not change your bill today.

New metric for electricity affordability

The Maine Public Utilities Commission must create a way to measure how electric bills affect household energy burden. It applies to residential customers of investor-owned transmission and distribution utilities. An interim progress report is due January 15, 2027. A final report is due December 15, 2027. The final report can include recommendations or proposed laws.

State review of electric delivery rates

The Maine Public Utilities Commission must review each part of electric delivery rates. The review looks for ways to lower costs, cut bill swings, and make bills easier to understand. The commission must get input from stakeholders and the public. An interim report is due January 31, 2027. A final report is due December 15, 2027. The final report can include recommendations or proposed laws.
