Constituent service stipends for Maine legislators

Beginning July 1, 2025, Senators get $2,000 a year for constituent services: $1,300 in January and $700 after adjournment. Representatives get $1,500 a year: $1,005 in January and $495 after adjournment. In the first regular session of each biennium, a member may choose to get the first payment in December after the Legislature convenes by notifying the Executive Director. The Executive Director informs members about this choice and any tax effects.

Travel pay and per diems for Maine legislators

Beginning July 1, 2025, legislators get $55 for each day they attend meetings or daily sessions. They also get $50 per day for meals and $70 per day for housing in regular session. The Legislative Council can raise these daily amounts with a 6‑member vote at the start of a regular session, but not above the regular federal per diem. Off‑session, lodging is reimbursed at the single‑room rate when a receipt is filed for each day of attendance and each night away from home. Mileage is paid for the most reasonable direct route at 55¢ per mile or the federal rate, whichever is lower; members may choose the daily meal allowance plus mileage instead of the meal‑and‑housing package.
