More help paying for treatment legal costs
This Maine law took effect upon approval. It raises the annual legal-cost reimbursement limit from $800 to $3,500 per eligible person through the Progressive Treatment Program Fund. Covered costs include starting or extending a Progressive Treatment Program. Eligible people include private psychiatric hospital superintendents or chief administrative officers, Assertive Community Treatment team directors, and private medical practitioners. Law enforcement officers and the patient's legal guardian also qualify. The department must reimburse eligible people, subject to available funds, and can reimburse private attorneys representing them. People seeking reimbursement must submit an itemized bill; the higher limit does not guarantee payment.
