Maine expands housing construction loan options
The Maine State Housing Authority can make construction loans for housing programs authorized by state law. Loans no longer require a financial institution partner or remain limited to low-income housing projects. The law also removes prior participation thresholds and requirements to hold money in escrow. The Authority sets application rules, borrower qualifications, housing location and construction standards, fees, and limits on interest rates or lender returns. The law provides no specific funding amount and does not require the Authority to approve any loan.
