New buying limits for Maine lottery players
Beginning April 3, 2026, Maine bans purchases totaling more than $25,000 in tickets or shares in a single lottery game. The total includes purchases across transactions and stores, by one person or several people acting together. The Maine State Lottery Commission may refuse prizes from these purchases, but prize denial is not automatic. The law also removes the requirement to print a game's overall odds of winning on each ticket.
Lottery retailers face stricter sales rules
Beginning April 3, 2026, Maine lottery rules must cover per-person ticket quantities and the ban on bulk purchases. This rulemaking requirement does not itself set another purchase limit. Agents must not knowingly sell tickets or shares to someone attempting a bulk purchase prohibited by law or rules. Violations can lead to license suspension, revocation, or refusal to renew. The law also updates license discipline grounds involving ticket sales performance and material changes since the license was issued.
