More medical voices guide vaccine list

The state immunization board now considers vaccine advice from pediatric, family, and obstetric groups. The advice must be evidence-based, keep or increase routine access, and not replace CDC standards. This can change which vaccines the program offers each year.

State help for kids' vaccines, with limits

If your child qualifies for the federal Vaccines for Children program, the immunization board can request state money to pay for recommended shots. The Legislature must approve any funds in the biennial budget. When program assessments come up short, the State does not have to pay the gap unless this approved funding is in place.

Pharmacists get vaccine liability protection

Licensed Maine pharmacists who meet state rules are protected from negligence lawsuits when giving a vaccine outside CDC guidance, if they follow state or the listed medical groups’ guidelines. This can make it easier to get some vaccines at pharmacies.
