Maine restricts drones at jails and prisons

Maine bans intentionally or knowingly flying drones over correctional facilities or jails at or below 400 feet above ground. Landing drones on these properties or flying them from the properties is also banned. A first violation is a civil violation with a fine of at least $500. Repeat violations are Class D crimes, including after a prior finding of substantially similar conduct in another jurisdiction. Law enforcement officers, corrections officers, and corrections supervisors performing public duties are exempt. Other people are exempt when working within their job duties with approval from the facility chief or jail administrator. A federal drone license or federal permission to fly is not a defense.
