Stronger court rights for Maine crime victims
Maine crime victims get timely notice when someone else receives a subpoena for the victim’s protected or private records. Victims can be heard at related criminal proceedings and receive notice of the hearing’s date and time. They also get updates when the defendant or State files an appeal, including its schedule and outcome. When victims have a right to be heard, a hired attorney or victim witness advocate or coordinator can speak for them. Using this right cannot change their treatment, except as required by Maine Rule of Professional Conduct 4.2.
