No prosecution deadline for child sex trafficking

Maine allows prosecution at any time for aggravated sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation of a minor. The victim must have been under 18 when the crime happened. The 20-year prosecution deadline does not apply to these cases. This rule covers crimes committed on or after September 1, 2026. It also covers earlier crimes whose prosecution deadline had not expired under the law in force immediately before that date.
