West Paris water district can borrow more
Beginning April 13, 2026, the West Paris Water District's debt limit rises from $1 million to $8 million. Total outstanding debt cannot exceed $8 million at any time. Trustees can borrow temporarily and issue notes, bonds, or other debt without a vote of district residents. Financing can cover water-system construction, operations, repairs, expansions, property purchases, damages, needed expenses, and interest during construction. It can also replace existing debt and repay the Town of West Paris for related expenses. A state drinking-water order requires the district to replace its storage tank by December 31, 2027. The law takes effect upon approval; it authorizes borrowing but does not provide funding, require borrowing, or set household water bills.
