Maine DEP staffing cap tracks inflation
The law sets a $7,000,000 yearly cap on DEP personal services paid from the Maine Ground and Surface Waters Clean-up and Response Fund. That $7,000,000 limit now goes up each year with inflation, using the Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This applies only to DEP pay and staffing for running and enforcing the cleanup laws funded by this account. It helps DEP keep up with rising costs while still having a fixed cap.
