Lifetime ferry pass for retired Maine ferry workers

The law creates a nontransferable lifetime ferry pass for retired Maine State Ferry Service employees. You qualify if you receive state retirement benefits, worked 15+ years for the service, and live year‑round on a served island. Holders get unlimited walk‑on rides to and from their home island and a waiver of reservation fees when they show the pass at booking. They also get one passenger‑and‑vehicle round trip per month in peak season and two per month in off‑peak. The vehicle must be noncommercial, have four tires or fewer, and be 20 feet or less; DOT sets seasons and reservation rules.
