January deadlines for forest and carbon reports

Forest reports, including the new forest carbon report, are due in January for the prior year. If a cutting period goes past December 31, you must file the report in January for the prior year. Anyone who files a harvest notification form must complete and return a harvest report even if no harvesting happened that year.

Maine landowners must report carbon enrollment

If any of your Maine forest land is enrolled in a forest carbon program or project, you must file a report with the director. The report must list the program or project name; the project developer if different; the protocol or registry and project ID if known; your legal name and contact info at enrollment; the enrollment period; and total acres enrolled by town, township, or plantation. Landowners already enrolled before this law took effect must file by July 1, 2026.
