Your doctor must write in your medical record that all legal requirements were met. The note must list the steps taken and the medicine that was prescribed.
To get this medication, you must make two oral requests at least 15 days apart and a written request to your doctor. You must sign the written request no earlier than 15 days after the first oral request. After you sign, at least 48 hours must pass before the doctor writes the prescription. At your second oral request, your doctor must offer you a chance to cancel. Your doctor may shorten part of the wait for medical reasons, but the total wait must be at least 7 days, and the doctor must note the waiver and why.
The law removes subsection 13 of Maine’s Death with Dignity law. This changes the rules for qualified patients and their doctors. Check the prior text of subsection 13 to see the exact change.
