New timelines and waivers for aid in dying
If you are a qualified patient, you must make two oral requests at least 15 days apart and a written request. You must sign the written request no earlier than 15 days after your first oral request. At least 48 hours must pass between your signature and the doctor writing the prescription. Your doctor may waive part of these waits if it is in your best interest, but the total wait must be at least 7 days. If a wait is waived, the doctor must write what was waived and why.
One rule is removed from the law
The law removes subsection 13 of the Maine Death with Dignity Act. This text does not state what that subsection covered. That rule no longer applies.
