More duties for expanded dental assistants

Beginning May 23, 2025, licensed expanded function dental assistants can take and process dental X-rays. They can polish above the gumline with a slow-speed rotary and rubber cup. They can also contour or finish restorations with a high-speed handpiece. The law recognizes these assistants as a licensed category and requires a license to perform these duties. Dental offices can assign these tasks to licensed staff.
