MaineCare: farther nursing home placements with consent
Beginning June 10, 2025, a MaineCare member leaving a hospital can be placed in a nursing home more than 60 miles but no more than 100 miles from home if the hospital tried to find a bed within 60 miles and documented refusals. For any placement beyond 60 miles, the hospital must give written contact information for the long-term care ombudsman. For any placement beyond 100 miles, the member or their guardian must agree to it. Distances are measured from the member’s residence. This may mean longer trips for you and family.
