Longer-distance nursing home placements for MaineCare

The law lets hospitals place MaineCare members in a nursing facility more than 60 miles from home after a hospital stay. For placements 60 to 100 miles away, the hospital must try to find a bed within 60 miles and document its search and any refusals. For any placement beyond 60 miles, the hospital must give you written information and contact details for the state long-term care ombudsman. For more than 100 miles, you or your guardian must agree to the move. These rules apply to hospital discharges to nursing facilities.
