Automated victim alerts with privacy and choice

The law creates a statewide automated victim alert system for jails and county or regional facilities, with a one-time $140,000 in FY 2026-27 to help sheriffs build and maintain it. County sheriffs run it and may use a private vendor. You can choose automated notices or another method the law allows. The system must keep your name and contact details private, with narrow disclosures to approved advocates or by law or court order, and vendors must follow these rules. Facilities must post policies for outages, wrong notices, and complaints and have staff to answer victim messages.

Moves $140K to General Fund surplus

The State Controller transfers $140,000 from the Attorney General’s settlement funds to the General Fund unappropriated surplus by June 30, 2027. This shifts money between state accounts and does not directly pay households.
