Temporary ban on private equity hospital takeovers in Maine

The law immediately pauses new takeovers of Maine hospitals by private equity firms and real estate investment trusts. These investors cannot acquire or increase direct or indirect ownership, or gain operational or financial control of a hospital. Deals are exempt if a certificate-of-need application was filed by June 1, 2025. The moratorium ends June 15, 2026.
